NHS England and NHS Improvement have launched a consultation on proposed guidance relating to individuals held within prisons and immigration removal centres (IRCs) who have been detained under the Mental Health Act for assessment and treatment within mental health inpatient services.
The consultation focuses on two proposed documents, which set out information and guidance on the transfer of these individuals to mental health inpatient services and their remission back to prison or an IRC:
- Proposed updates to ‘The transfer and remission of adult prisoners under the Mental Health Act 1983 good practice guidance 2019’.
- Proposed introduction of ‘The transfer and remission of immigration removal centre detainees under the Mental Health Act 1983 good practice guidance 2019’.
