If you or a family member need advice about the best way to relieve the symptoms of a winter cold, sore throat or runny nose or if you are just starting to feel poorly and don’t know what it could be, there is a reliable and accurate source of health information online.
The NHS Choices web site (www.nhs.uk) is here to help and you don’t even need to get out of bed.
The official NHS web site includes an online ‘symptom checker’, as well as information to signpost you to local health services, like a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, or optician.
Dr Ed Ford, a Somerset GP and Chairman of Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group, explained: “Looking for a reliable source of health advice on the internet can be difficult. However, the NHS Choices website includes accurate, up-to-date health information which you can rely on and help you access health services in your area.”
You can visit the NHS Choices web site via computer, tablet or smartphone by going to: www.nhs.uk
If you don’t have access to the internet you can telephone NHS 111 for free health advice and information at any time and calls are free.
If you are concerned about any aspect of your health or are experiencing persistent symptoms, make an appointment with your GP Practice.
