Lay users are provided with specialist training when they get involved with specific workstreams, such as procurement and evaluation. We will provide training for new lay users as required on meeting skills, good governance and holding providers and commissioners to account. Our new operational plan includes training for staff on how to hold effective engagement meetings and how to involve hard to reach groups. In the future we plan to provide Easy Read training which will be co-produced with learning disability service users. Also sessions on using social media to support and promote engagement, such as running a live Twitter feed and how to use hashtags correctly.
We also send out information about training opportunities run by other organisations such as NHS England and community groups in the weekly Engagement Bulletin.
We are looking to develop new training to support Patient Participation Groups (PPGs), including workshops on effective meeting skills and the role of patients in the NHS. This is to ensure PPGs are able to have full representation from their communities, including seldom heard voices. Sessions such as these will be based on our new ‘Top Tips for PPGs’ information pack.
